Ryan Hart

BS Physics
Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine

Ryan has been working with students in physics and math for over 17 years. He began as a peer tutor in high school, continuing in his collegiate years as he pursued a degree in physics at Bowdoin College. Since graduation, he has taught high school physics (and coached volleyball and soccer) at two independent schools and developed online computer science curriculum for schools across the country. As a teacher, Ryan has spent countless hours observing and thinking about how students learn. He believes that “science is about wonder and risk and imagination” and that “we teach children science and math so they can make the world a better place, not so they can pass tests” (Martinez & Stager 2013).

Ryan’s strength is in meeting students where they’re at and supporting them as they grow as individuals. He works with them to build a strong conceptual understanding of topics so that they can be more successful and resilient when working through difficult homework and test questions. There is nothing more rewarding for him to be with students as they wrestle with the concepts, have those aha! moments, and become more confident in their abilities.

Outside of his work in education, Ryan loves to make things (e.g., furniture, sourdough bread), explore places (e.g., national parks, foreign cities) and play outside (e.g., garden, soccer, hike).

Ryan looks forward to meeting you and your student and working with them in high school physics, calculus, or computer science!
